pantry basic – Italian Seasoning

We’ve shared pantry basics before (Taco Seasoning, Taco Sauce, Herbs de Provence, Mason Jar Ranch dressing) … We make many of our own seasonings for a few reasons:

1) we can control the flavors

2) we can control the additives and preservatives (there are none)

3) we can make sure it’s fresh and control the cost (using little bits of different spices means we can buy and use fresh herbs and spices)

This is a favorite we use all the time.  Italian Seasoning.  We use it for an easy herb roast chicken, in meatballs, a quick addition to change the flavor of our heirloom tomato sauce, to flavor breadcrumbs.  To make a homemade Minestrone Soup. The list goes on …

  • 1 Tbs dried Basil
  • 1 Tbs dried Oregano
  • 2 tsp dried Rosemary
  • 1 tsp dried Thyme
  • 1 tsp dried Parsley
  • 1 tsp dried Marjoram (optional)
  • 1 Tbs Garlic Powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder (optional)

Put them in a glass or ceramic container.  Mix and use or store in a cool, dark, dry cupboard.
