Over the past few months I’ve finally gotten back into running. The five year break was good and all, but it is so much sweeter to be back in the groove.
Coincidently, this summer my four year old learned to ride a bike without training wheels, allowing us to go for longer, faster rides together. It’s been nice to actually exercise while spending time with my kids.
A Montana winter is staring us in the face. Just this week we had two full days of snow and a night in the 20s. And remember I’m from Texas? … Where jogging in below 32 degrees sounds like an Olympic sport.
Joining a gym doesn’t really appeal to me, so I’ve been scrambling to figure out how I’m going to keep running outdoors. A quick jog in the neighborhood is much more practical for me in this stage of life, than a trek to the gym with the kids. (Daycare at the gym just doesn’t do it for my littlest.)
I’ve pieced together a good winter running outfit (wool socks, the right leggings, jacket, etc.), but something seemed to be missing.
I’d gotten out of the habit of listening to music while running, but this seemed like the one thing I was missing. Distraction. I needed something to keep my mind off the fact that my lungs are about to jump out of my throat from the cold.
And plus… how can you not run your heart out while listening to Katy Perry’s Roar. It’s almost impossible.
So here’s where you come in! The kind folks at AT&T sent us a few products to review, as well as a set to give to one of you guys.
We have a brand new Nite Ize Action Armband and a pair of YurBuds earbuds designed specifically for women (sorry folks, iPhone not included).
Back in the day, I ran with my iPod mini clipped to by shorts, but this arm band has proven to be way better. For me the bottom line is that if I have my phone with me, I can run for longer. I don’t have to worry about being needed at home when I know I’m only a phone call away. It’s nice to be available. Also, the armband has a perfect spot to stash your key so you don’t have to worry about stuffing it in your sock.
And the headphones designed specifically for women are quite wonderful, as I’ve never been able to run in the headphones you get with a new phone. They always fell out of my ears. The YurBuds are smaller than the average headphone. They stay in my ear with no problems. And again, if I get a phone call while running, I can seamlessly answer and then get right back to the music.
So I think you’ll like these. And if exercising isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other good opportunties to listen to music. And if listening to music isn’t your thing… well, Christmas is coming and this could be a great gift for someone you love.
